Another battle we didn’t manage to finish:
With the help of IG troops, Squats tried to cleanse one of their ancestral home planets from the Ork plague. By now, the Orks felt quite homely though, as could be seen from the more permanent housing they constructed. Surprisingly for the Imperial commanders, the Orks did not wait around for the artillery to be set up, instead they met the slow advance of the Imperial forces with a crazed all-out-charge on the Goff flank and by the Kult of Speed. Those former guys managed to go berserk with their Super Stikkbombz and blew half their own clan up, much to the luck of the Imperials, who would’ve been ground to dust otherwise.
By the end of the 1st round (which took us an eternity) the Squats were dangerously decimated, the IG’s heavy support held their ground, and the Orks were still happily unbroken. The Shock Attack guns had made short work of 2 Goliath’s (!), the Overlord was downed, and most Imperial infantry close to breaking. It was indeed looking well for the Ork defenders-turned-attackers, but it had gotten late and we decided to continue another day. As it often happens, the table was needed for something else and we never finished it. Who knows which direction the battle would have taken…
